Super Mario Galaxy

So, for Christmas, I received a Wii. And there is one word, and only one word I can use to describe it. 0WN4G3. And even more 0WN4G3 is Super Mario Galaxy. I'm going to describe the entire game to you, feature by feature.

Feature 1: Characters

In addition to the normal Mario, there are also a host of other characters including (just a few) Bee Mario, Fly Mario, Boo Mario, and Rainbow Mario.
Feature 1.1: Bee Mario

Yup, that's Mario in a bee costume. He is lighter than normal Mario, which means that he can walk on flowers. He can also fly, which is what the big wings on his back are for. Go figure. And his last special power is that he can stick to honey walls and some fuzzy-type surfaces. His one weakness is: Water. Water kills bees, so if you land in water, you go back to being Mario, which can be very inconvenient, especially if you're on a flower that disintegrates as soon as you land on, instantly catapulting you into the black hole lurking underneath. Great kids' game, huh?
Feature 1.2: Boo Mario

In the ways of style, he hasn't got much, but that would be one heck of a Halloween costume. It's also a pretty good power-up. His special powers are: He can float and go through walls. Also, other Boos don't attack him. (Actually, they just follow him around with hearts over their heads. Hey, I didn't make the game...) His one weakness is: light. (Stay away from the liiiiiiiiiiight.........................................................) If you go into light while you're Boo Mario, you come out as regular Mario.
Feature 1.3: Fire Mario

Ah, the classic Fire Flower. A few changes have been made to it in this game, though. For one thing, if any of you remember Super Mario Bros. 3... no? Just me? Really? Oh well. Well, in SMB3, the Fire Flower lasted until you got hurt or got another power-up to replace it. In Galaxy, it lasts about 30 seconds, which, believe it or not, can sometimes get... well... annoying, mainly because you have 30 second to light 3 lamps to go on in the level. (That's one of the things I don't understand about the game. What does lighting a bunch of ceramic pots on fire do to open a door?) But, on the upside, you do get another cool costume.
Feature 1.4: Ice Mario

Well, the image is a little pixelated, but it's a computer, right? But anyways, Ice Mario is pretty cool. But, like Fire Mario, he only lasts a few seconds. Using Ice Mario, you can walk on water, which instantly freezes under your feet. Unfortunately, it melts a few seconds later. One of the cooler features of Ice Mario is that, if you see a waterfall, you can use your wall jump power to freeze the side of the waterfall and go up. Admittedly, it isn't very realistic, but hey, this is a game where a plumber in red overalls flies through the universe to save a princess from a giant turtle with spikes on his back.
Feature 1.5: Fly Mario
Well, I couldn't find an image for this one, which is strange because he is by far the BEST character in the game. Basically, you get a cool little star with red points on it and you can instantly jump up in the air and fly like a bird to wherever you want to go, at least as long as you can get there in 90 seconds or so. Another cool costume, not to mention the somewhat cool ability to bodyslam an enemy from outside the atmoshpere.
Feature 1.6: Rainbow Mario
Well, he's back. Rainbow Mario is the one that you all remember from the old Mario with the fast music. Oh, not to mention the fact that he's completely invincible, can jump like twice as high as normal, and can run much faster.
Feature 1.7: Spring Mario
One of the... er... stranger things about Galaxy. There's really nothing special about him, except that he's... well... a spring. Of course, I know lots of people who are springs. There's... uh... Tommy... Mario... Sally... Mario........................ Okay, so I made all those names up, except Mario.
Well, there goes Feature 1. Hey, I've got it. I'll do each feature in a separate post. I'll post Feature 2 about a week from now.

Well, we get to the time of year when school is about to start, (Aw, maaaaan!) so I might as well do some more writing. Or rather, YOU might as well do some more writing. I'm just going to grade them. Ha, ha! So, the contest rules.

3. It must fit with the following opening:

He couldn't think. He was being chased through an unknown forest by a maniac who would probably kill him if he got close enough and had no means of defense except his own agility. He looked back and saw, fleetingly, a figure in all black. He dodged sideways through the trees and grabbed a vine. It lifted him off his feet and up into the air. At the very top of his flight he let go and for the first time in hours, felt at home. He felt like he could stay there forever, looking down at the forest floor with no ground to hinder him. Unfortunately, gravity felt otherwise. He did a backflip, just for good measure, and landed on a thick tree branch. His pursuer looked around in confusion and roared in anger when he saw the tall figure crouched on the branch. Suddenly, he lost his balance and fell. He had a short glance of his pursuer's hand reaching into a pocket, but before he could see what as drawn out, he lost consciousness.

Okay, I'm tired of making little random LEGO guys doing little random stuff. I want a plot, a storyline, and... er... well, I guess that's all. So, what do you think I have in mind? That's right, a cartoon! And in this tutorial, kind of a follow-up to lightsaber effects tutorial, I will show you how. (For Windows users: 1) Get a Mac! 2)I'll post a Windows version soon. 3. Open iMovie, go to Photos in the toolbar, turn Ken Burns effect off, set frame length to 0:03 and select your first drawing. Put it into the timeline. Follow for other drawings. So, for those of you who haven't experienced the exasperation, I will demonstrate. You are watching a video of (insert video choice here). You finish the video and scroll down the screen to look at the comments. One pops out to you:

Blinx 3

I just found today that Artoon, the company that released the amazing (in my opinion) game Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space, has confirmed that a Blinx 3 is in production. In this post, I will list a few pros and cons of Blinx and Blinx 2 and give my opinion on what I want in Blinx 3. Blinx: The Time Sweeper was the game that started the saga. I enjoyed it, but never really got to play very much, and the one thing I couldn't stand was the storyline. He goes to save a princess who I think is the daughter of a time goddess or something. I can describe it in 10 words (and 7 exclamation points). LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME LAME!!!!!!! How many stories have you read where the main character has to rescue a princess? Hmmm, let's think: 1, 2, 3, 10, 5, 000, 000, 000? I read some reviews, some people hated it, some people loved it, and most people thought it had some pros and cons. The one thing I found interesting was that almost everyone thought the graphics were good. I'm not really surprised, because the Xbox was famous for the graphics, but I must say, I didn't think that they were that good. Lots of people thought that the whole "control time" thing was a good idea, but I saw a lot of people who said, "But why a CAT?" This was, for me, one of the pros of the game. I am completely obsessed with cats, so I loved it when the folks down at Artoon and Microsoft came up with a game where the cat was the good guy. I mean, look at Cats and Dogs, Tom and Jerry, all of those, and you'll see that almost no TV shows/movies/video games have cats as the good guys. Back to the game, I thought that one of the cooler aspects of the game was the monsters. It is very interesting to think that when crystallized time is left alone for too long, it spawns into monsters. Many people thought that Blinx wasn't even that great of a character. Moving on, Blinx 2: Masters of Time and Space was an excellent game. Microsoft solved the problem of Blinx not being a good character, because in this game, you get to make your own Time Sweeper with more than 20 different variables to change, including fur color, eye color, body proportions, fur shape, and uniform. Not only that, but in this game, a clever twist for this game is that this time, you can (not can, must) play as the vile time bandits, the Tom Tom Gang. As opposed to controlling time, the Tom Toms, who are pigs instead of cats, control space. Their controls include: the Subspace Dive, the Void Trap, the Warp Tunnel, the Banana (don't ask), and the Black Hole. The time controls, on the other hand, are the five basic functions of a VCR: Fast forward, Slow, Pause, Rewind, and Record. The FF is simple enough: you move at double speed for a limited amount of time. Slow: everything else moves at half speed. Pause: nothing except you can move. Rewind: everything except you moves backwards. (this is useful for repairs. If a bridge in front of you collapses, just rewind time to before it breaks, and voila! you can walk nonchalantly across a bridge that was a few broken splinters of wood a couple of seconds ago!) In my humble opinion, the best feature of Blinx 2 was the incredible graphics, both in the game and the cutscenes. The storyline is greatly improved as well. Blinx 2 is twice as good, if not better, than the first. And now, the moment you've all been waiting for: Blinx 3! I am personally expecting equal graphics and an improved storyline. Hey everyone, I have been seeing lots of lightsaber fight videos on the Net, and I decided to make my own effects. Here's how I did it on Adobe Illustrator, for those of you that have odd programs that no one else has. (Note: I may update this later if I can improve it.

First of all, you need to get your photo on Illustrator. This works whether you took the photo or found it on the Net. Open up iPhoto, your web browser, or wherever your photo is stored and Illustrator. On the Illustrator window, select "New Document." A small window will pop up, and at the bottom, select RGB on the color scale. Click and drag your photo onto the canvas and move it into the center.
Now, use the Line tool to draw a line and adjust the thickness so that it completely covers the blade. Go up to Effects on the toolbar, go to Blur and select Gaussian Blur. In the space labeled Radius, type in the thickness of your line. Press OK. It will take you back to the canvas, and you will notice that the blade is still showing through. Using the Selection tool, select the blurred line that you just made and press Ctrl-C (or command-C, if you use a Mac) and then Ctrl- or command-V to paste another copy on.
Repeat step 2, but with radii of 2 and 3 times the width of your blade.
Now, you add the saber's color. Select the top blurred line, go to Filter, then Colors, and press Adjust Colors. A window with three sliders should come up. Choose the color that you want your saber to be, then take that color up to 100%. Now for the tricky part. (It took me a couple of tries to get this right.) It's not really tricky, but it took a couple of tries to remember to do it. Take the sliders for the other two colors and bring them down to -100%. Click OK. If you don't want your saber to be so rich in color, then you can experiment with the color bars.
A lightsaber's blade isn't actually the color of the lightsaber, it's white and the aura around the blade makes it look like it's colored. To add this, draw a line down the middle of the blade with a thickness of about 1/3 the thickness of your original line. It will still be red, so you need to go to Stroke and change the swatch to white. Then, go up back to Effects and select Gaussian Blur again. Make it have a radius of less than 5. Press OK and save your picture.
Email them to your friends and put them on the Internet for everyone to see!
